Inchie Workshop at Wemyess

A couple of pictures I managed to take of the December Inchie workshop at Wemyess school of needlework.
It's always such a busy day!
Wemyess is such a lovely place to visit, the workshops are held in the museum room, it's a lovely place to be with a history of stitch on every wall.
When I do get the chance I join some of the ladies there on a Wednesday, a drop in day when there is a chance to catch up on personal projects and chat over a cuppa.
Hoping to share more about this and other creative ventures soon in 2020 ...... happy stitching !

Filography & Fancy Baubles

Filography
This is a little card I stitched at the last Embroiders Guild meeting on Tuesday 4th with Carol
each of us choose a design from the little kits that Carol had put together
I chose a Christmas tree
and with her guidance to got busy stitching and chatting, We also exchanged our secret santa gifts and opened them too! I got some delicious dusted champagne truffles,
needless to say I don't think anyone finished their card on the night but I couldn't wait to get back to it, its so addictive! I finished it at the following weekend.
the following Tuesday & Wednesday some of us attended a machine embroidery workshop.
more about that later......

This weeks Tag Tuesday theme is
'Decorate a Tree bauble'
I cut two baubles from one Christmas tree card
and added more bling!

Red inchies,

 a star garland,

 large vintage style heart,

small furry heart with a stitched snowflake,

 a small wreath

 a small fabric bowl

which I made from the waste piece from cutting out the stars.
tonight the auction colour is white so I've gathered a little bag of goodies to take along with some threads and a sewing kit, we are going to be stitching Christmas cards and we are also having a secret santa.

Comments, Patchwork and Prayer Flags

As I sat down at my laptop this morning, with little C packed off to nursery for the morning I had full intentions of going out to my little studio to find another unfinished project to get on with. That was until I read the lovely comments about the cake I made for my aunt, thank you so much, all of you! but I can't take credit for the design I saw the idea for the icing effect here on pinterest and pinned it sometime ago to remind me the next time I needed a simple icing idea for my favourite Victoria sponge recipe.
I'm so glad I clicked on the link to Jan's blog and saw and read about lovely prayer flags that she and others are making, I was lost on a journey reading all about them and I want to make some now!
This is my little mini quilt which I finally finished the binding on last night. I put it away after completing the applique some time ago and blogged about here.
I decided I would make it in to a wall hanging and perhaps display it in my little caravan.
I have been meaning to make bunting for my little caravan too but perhaps a string of prayer flags would be nicer and more meaningful.
Have a lovely day, its raining and windy here,I hope your weather is better x

Lost and Found

On a recent studio clear out I came across a bag of display folders which contained all the design work for each project in my City & Guilds Embroidery course, these were not lost but being stored but I found another folder I had forgotten about, full of decorated paper samples, from experimenting with all sorts of mediums.
I was delighted and used three different samples to make the tag for this weeks Tag Tuesday theme
The base layer is some waxed cartridge paper which has then been painted with watercolours
the dark waves were cut from paper painted with watercolours and salt added,
it has a lovely crystal effect
the third paper I used was thin tissue strips,
again painted with watercolour wash and iridescent medium

The embellishments are beach treasure!
Sea glass and pottery from our local 'Aberdour Black Sands beach'
Large shell was found on 'Mudeford beach' by my little girl Charlotte
on her recent trip down South with Daddy
The four tiny shells I found on a little beach near a campsite 'Dunbar'
The largest stone bottom left is actually pumice which I found on the beach in 'Crete'
and the blue and white pebble I found in 'Lulworth Cove'
I added a little bit of blue/green shot crystal organza for sparkle
and edged the card with green metallic ink.
Tie: Teal organza ribbon.

I was overcome with emotion when I came across a piece of embroidery I though I had lost about 8yrs, a little piece I did over 25yrs ago!

Flower Power & Birthdays

Talking of flowers, my sister Theresa is having a hippy party to celebrate her 60th birthday next week, everyone is getting organised with hippy clothes, gathering accessories etc. among other things,  I have been working on a little top for Charlotte. Not one I made myself, in fact it was a sale purchase from the supermarket, the cute embroidery on the front sold it to me for £3

I bought it over a year ago and she didn't really get a lot of wear out of it because it got too short length wise before she outgrew it, it occurred to me last week that the top actually still fits her, except it's too short. so I cut the bottom from another t-shirt from the quilt/rug pile and came up with this.

I didn't get a picture of the pink top on its own before I added the green bit but I'm sure it's easy to see what it looked like before I added the green bit.
I just stitched this by hand, tshirt fabric is great for this kind of thing as it doesn't fray.

I did one line of running stitch in 3 strands of pale blue embroidery thread along the very bottom of the pink top, then another with pink in a wavy line further up to join the pieces together, then another in green using french knots.

in the back I just did a straight line across and added a little heart applique,
to match the one I did on the front with a blanket stitch in pink around the edge.
The one on the front is covering a transfer image that was already there, I thought the batik fabric would give it a more 'hippy' look.

Still needing something else to blend the two fabrics together

I thought I might add a flower, and give the steam a seem another go,
it worked a much better on the cotton tshirt fabric but I'm still not convinced I need two paper backings on a bonding product, anyway backing papers removed,

I placed it on top and ironed.

I then machine stitched round the edge a couple of times

with fuchsia pink embroidery thread

and added a little bead detail to the heart on the front, with hex glass beads
they have a very sparkly iridescent coating on them

I'm quite pleased with how it looks now

It's my older daughter, Aprils 20th birthday today :)
So that means its cake time

Victoria sandwich filled with lemon curd & lemon mousse
topped with lemon butter icing, more lemon curd and
sprinkled with lemon rind.

Happy Scrappy Hearts

The little boxes I keep on my cutting table for all the little leftover scraps from projects are filling up

 and are inspiring in themselves,

I opened the one with all the blues and greens and enjoyed an afternoon last week

making these little Scrappy happy hearts.

I was going to make them hanging hearts,

then I thought they might look nice adorning a wreath,

but they are so tactile I feel more inclined to display them loose,

where they can be picked up

 touched and held

 in your hand

they are lovely to hold and

 so full of happy!

So they are

 available as is

to do with what you wish and enjoy........here

Romantic Rose Inchies

I started these little pale pink inchies when I was working on the romantic hearts collection.
I set them aside for other projects and rediscovered them a few days ago,
In another effort to de-clutter my sewing table I enjoyed some inchie time.

Pretty peachy pink pastel shells,  bugal beads

tiny pearly glass seed beads, flowers and dragonflies

crystal amethyst, a vintage diamante,

a shiny silver star, antique lace ......

french knots, shell button hearts,  a romantic ribbon rose.

each backed with white cotton and hand stitched edging

and if you know of a place that they might feel at home ....Boxoftrix on Etsy <~ click here

Thanks for stopping by!
