Comments, Patchwork and Prayer Flags

As I sat down at my laptop this morning, with little C packed off to nursery for the morning I had full intentions of going out to my little studio to find another unfinished project to get on with. That was until I read the lovely comments about the cake I made for my aunt, thank you so much, all of you! but I can't take credit for the design I saw the idea for the icing effect here on pinterest and pinned it sometime ago to remind me the next time I needed a simple icing idea for my favourite Victoria sponge recipe. 

 I'm so glad I clicked on the link to Jan's blog and saw and read about lovely prayer flags that she and others are making, I was lost on a journey reading all about them and I want to make some now! 

 This is my little mini quilt which I finally finished the binding on last night. I put it away after completing the applique some time ago and blogged about here.

 I decided I would make it in to a wall hanging and perhaps display it in my little caravan.

I have been meaning to make bunting for my little caravan too but perhaps a string of prayer flags would be nicer and more meaningful.

Mini quilt finished

Finally finished! .......mini quilt from Janet Bolton's book 'My Grandmothers patchwork quilt'

I really enjoyed working on this little piece which has all been done by hand. Not sure whether to hang it as is, frame it or keep it until I have made all the other pieces from the book, although I have so many other projects on the go that I'm not sure how long it will be before I begin another panel from the book.

I have decided that I'm going to resist the temptation to start any new project until all the ones I have already started are complete. This one was the first.

It's been a busy summer, not much time set aside for posting but I have been stitching away in my spare moments and managed to enjoy a little more time in my workshop now that Charlotte is a little older she likes to come in and play with her toys in there and look at her books, she also likes to mix up all the little things in my storage rack drawers and make little piles of ribbons and lace and buttons on the floor..... im trying not to discourage her to much, It would be nice if she grew to want to create things with them too :o)

New Project

Whilst Christmas shopping online I came across a great little book.Janet Bolton's 'My Grandmothers patchwork quilt.

It's not a new book and probably one that many creative stitcher's will have seen or read about many times. On Flickr I found pictures of other stitcher's versions of the little 'quilts' inspired by this lovely little book. So, with it being a children's story book, I decided it would be perfect for my Niece and purchased a copy for her.

I liked it so much I knew I just had to get hold of another copy for myself and have a go!

I liked the centre piece and wanted to start on it right away........

With a busy Christmas approaching I had to wait until the decorations were packed before I could start.......

The background piecing took me longer than I thought, its been a long time since I worked on any patchwork project but I enjoyed the process.

This is as far as I have got to date

When it came to piecing the children's clothes I found that a combination of thickness and fraying properties in my fabric choices. I opted in the end to use Bondaweb and fuse the fabric flat to the background ...a less fiddly option!
